Laboratory of Theoretical and Applied Ethology - LETA
In 2008, the Laboratory of Theoretical and Applied Ethology was inaugurated by the professor Dra. Nicola Schiel, as one of the laboratories of the Department of Biology at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE) in Brazil. One of the major goals of the group involves the research of the Animal Behaviour and Ethnobiology.
The team develops their studies in the areas of ecology, animal cognition and animal welfare, contributing significantly to understand several behavioral aspects of mammals, conservation of biodiversity and scientific disclosure.
Most of the studies are developed in the field, especially in fragments of Atlantic Forest in the state of Pernambuco and in the semiarid Northeast (states of Paraiba and Pernambuco). Another study area is the coastal region on the state of Rio Grande do Norte, where reasearchers on dolphin's behaviour, ethnobiology and ethnoecology are performed.
